CHICKEN KORMA- HEIRLOOM RECIPE

Hi guys, welcome back to my blog. Today I am sharing the recipe of my special Chicken korma that I learnt from my mother. The korma is super delicious and everyone at home loves it. This chicken korma tastes best with Basmati pulao.

Will share the recipe of making the perfect Pulao in my next post. Coming to the recipe of making Chicken korma, I have used Chicken, onions, coconut, tomatoes, curd and potato. Adding just the right amount of potatoes enhances the taste of the Korma, so I am using just one potato with 500 gms chicken.

Here I have used coconut paste. To make coconut paste, grind the coconut with little water in a mixer till you get a smooth paste. Freeze this in the freezer and use this in recipes as required.

In this recipe of making Chicken korma, I have used a Pressure cooker. You can also make this korma in a pan, or instant pot. The same recipe can be used to cook Mutton korma, but the korma has to cook for more time.

Now, lets move on to the recipe of making Chicken Korma.

Ingredients

500 gms Chicken cut into large pieces
1 potato peeled and cut into wedges
4 tbsp oil
2 cardamoms, 2 cinnamons, 2 cloves
1 large onion thinly sliced
4 large tomatoes pureed
3 tbsp Ginger garlic paste
4 tbsp curd
4 tbsp coconut paste
1 and 1/4 tsp salt ( or as required)
1 tsp red chilli powder ( or as required)
1 tbsp lemon juice
Handful of coriander and mint leaves
1 cup water

Method

  • Heat oil in a pressure cooker, add cardamoms,, cinnamons, cloves and onions.
  • Saute for sometime till the onions turn golden, the add ginger garlic paste and saute till the raw smell goes.
  • Next add tomato puree and cook till oil starts separating.
  • Add salt, red chilli powder, curd and coconut paste and mix well.
  • Finally add the chicken pieces, potatoes, coriander and mint leaves along with 1 cup water and close the lid of the Pressure cooker.
  • Pressure cook for 3 whistles and switch off the gas.
  • Allow the steam to escape and open the lid.
  • Add lime juice and bring the gravy to a boil again.
  • Check for taste and add salt or chilli powder if necessary.
  • Transfer the Chicken korma to a serving bowl and serve hot with Basmati Pulao.
