Baked chicken legs(drumsticks)are a tasty and effortless main dish you can combine with rice, pasta, and noodles to make a filling meal for family and friends.

These chicken legs or drumsticks as we call them can be served for lunch, dinner, barbecues to parties.

8 easy marinades to try with chicken legs(drumsticks).

If you are in a hurry a quick salt and pepper with a teaspoon of lemon or lime juice and a teaspoon of oil can be a quick marinade.

Or try the following marinades every time you want to bake some chicken drumsticks.

  • honey garlic marinade.
    • 1/4 cup honey + 1 tablespoon of garlic powder + 2 tablespoons of soy sauce + 1 tablespoon of oil.
  • Lemon pepper chicken marinade.
    • 1 tablespoon of lemon zest + 2-3 tablespoons lemon juice +1 tablespoon of garlic powder
      + 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper + salt + 1 tablespoon of oil.
  • Teriyaki sauce marinade
    • 1/4 cup teriyaki sauce + 1 teaspoon grated ginger(or powder) +1 teaspoon garlic powder + 2 tablespoons of sugar.
  • hot barbeque sauce marinade.
    • 1/4 cup olive oil + 1/4 cup BBQ sauce +1 teaspoon of red chili powder + 1/2 teaspoon of paprika 
      + 2 teaspoons of garlic powder + 1/4 teaspoon salt +1/4 teaspoon of pepper.
  • Chicken fajita marinade.
    • 1/4 cup olive oil + 2 tablespoons of lime juice + 1 tablespoon of vinegar + 1 teaspoon of red chilli powder + 1/2 teaspoon of ground cumin +1 teaspoon +1 teaspoon of garlic powder + 1/4 teaspoon of salt + 1/4 tsp ground pepper + 1 tbsp fresh chopped cilantro. 
  • Cillantro and lime marinade.
    • 2 tablespoon of oill + 2 tablesppon of lime juice+ ¼ cup of fresh cilantro chopped+  salt and pepper
  • Hawaiian Chicken Marinade.
    • ½ cup pineapple juice + 3 tablespoons of soy sauce + 2 tablespoons of olive oil + ½ a teaspoon of onion powder + ½  a teaspoon of ginger ground or powder + salt and pepper.
  • Herb marinade.
    • 1 teaspoon of garlic powder + 1 teaspoon of onion powder + 1 teaspoon of dried oregano + 1 teaspoon of paprika(substitute with red chilli powder + 2 tablespoons of oil + Salt to season.

Tips to make crispy baked chicken legs(drumsticks).

  • Use skin on chicken legs(drumsticks).
  • Once you’ve washed the chicken legs, place them in a colander to drain excess water and then use kitchen paper towels to pat dry the drumsticks.
  • Combine the ingredients to make the marinade for the chicken legs, taste and make adjustments. add salt and pepper or extra chilli powder or paprika for heat.
  • let the chicken marinate at least for an hour for best results, once you’ve coated the chicken legs with the marinade, place them in the refrigerator.
  • Cover up your baking pan with foil for easy clean up as well as to save the dripping which has all the flavors.
  • How long your chicken legs(drumsticks)need to cook will depend on your oven. generally 40-45 minutes is how long it will take to bake the chicken legs. flip half way through.
  • I like to save the seasoned drippong and mix them with the baked chicken drumsticks, this way you can avoid the legs from drying as they rest before serving or when reheating.

RECIPE DIFFICULTY-EASY

How to bake chicken legs(drumsticks).

The ingredients mentioned below use standard measuring cups and spoons.

Ingredients for baked chicken legs.

8 chicken drumsticks(skin on)

1 teaspoon of black pepper

1/2 a teaspoon of red chilli powder

1 teaspoon of ginger powder(substitute with 1 tablespoon of grated ginger)

1 teaspoon of onion powder

1 tablespoon of honey

2 tablespoons of hot sauce(I used Sriracha sauce)

2 tablespoons of oil

Salt to season

Method

Wash and clean the chicken drumsticks and place them in a colander to drain excess water.

Once excess water is drained, use paper kitchen towels to pat dry the chicken legs.

Add black pepper, red chilli powder, ginger powder, onion powder, honey, hot sauce, salt to season, oil into a large bowl(bowl should be able to hold the 8 drumsticks as well).

Mix until combined well.

Add the dry chicken drumsticks to the bowl. toss until they are combined well.

Use a disposable glove to avoid staining your nails or use a bowl with a lid to shake and mix the seasoning with the legs.

Refrigerate for 30 to 60 minutes for the chicken drumsticks to marinate well.

How to bake the chicken legs(drumsticks).

Remove the chicken legs from your refrigerator 15 minutes before baking time.

Preheat oven to 200C.
Toss the chicken drumsticks well and place them in a foil-covered baking pan.

Leave space between the chicken legs on the baking sheet.

Once the oven preheats, set your oven time to 45 minutes.
Place the chicken legs in the oven, bake for 20 minutes,

Flip them over bake for another 20 minutes.

The last 5 minutes, flip them over again, you can bake for the allotted time(5 minutes)or broil them.

Remove from the oven, let the chicken leg(drumsticks) rest, brush or coat the flavored dripping on the baked chicken legs for added flavor and moisture.

For best results, serve warm.
